There's a commercial running on AFN right now about Verbal Abuse. It's actually pretty well-done from a journalistic standpoint, I'm grateful to say... some of their commercials look like they were done by my 6th grade SPACE class.
No, I'm being snitty and that's too harsh... my 6th grade SPACE class had way more better standards than some of the schlock we have to watch on our government-run channels...
Anyhoo, the commercial shows a woman cleaning while a man's voice is heard berating her..."You call that clean? Blah blah blah," and then a man fixing a car while a woman's voice crushes him..."You think you can fix that? You can't do ANYTHING right! Blah blah blah blah blah!" And then there's the soothing professional voice urging people to get help, that verbal abuse is just as abusive and intolerable as physical abuse, that nobody should tolerate being treated like that, blah blah blah. Makes me feel all warm and gooey that we put out a good, sincere, hopefully helpful PSA addressing one of my personal crusades...
My question is this:
What does one do when the voice in their head constantly beating them up is their own?
Is Blogger relevant anymore?

4 folks talked back to Mama:
Well, I went to law school and over-achieved, hoping that it would finally shut my inner-bitch's nagging that I wasn't smart-enough or good-enough. Now she complains that I'm too lazy and probably a bad lawyer, despite considerable evidence to the contrary.
So I guess I'm saying I don't have a clue.
When you find out, let me know. At least mine doesn't shout at me that I'm the most useless person on the face of the earth, or urge me to cut myself or drive into a tree anymore. So, I guess for me the proper medication brought the voice down to a whisper.
You're not alone sweetie.
I don't have voices in my head that beat me up.
Maybe I should.
My voices tell me I'm funnier or smarter than I am and then I go into a comments box and post something I think is witty or pithy. Tell me, should I do something to stop them??
